The Art Of Supervision: Context, Basic Techniques And Concepts

The focus of this workshop will be on the historical perspective of supervision in the field, exploring the models of supervision and the basic concepts that drive a social work supervision relationship. Particular focus will be on Kadushin’s administrative, educational and supportive functions of supervision. Case examples will be used to highlight these aspects of the process.

Objectives: Participants will: 1) be able to place SW supervision in an historical context and understand how this impacts the delivery of services in today’s marketplace; 2) develop a working definition of social work supervision applicable to all areas of practice; and 3) understand the basics of the supervision process including models of supervision and the administrative, educational and supportive functions of the process.
