Historically, the supervisory relationship is one of the cornerstones of sound social work education and practice. Beginning with the relationship of a student with their field supervisor to work place supervision, it plays a crucial role in the development of social workers and the maintaining of the values and ethics of the profession.

Social workers in the field face many challenges in the current marketplace due to the struggles of agencies dealing with the shifts in funding streams and managed care. The impact on agencies and workers has been time and workload constraints. Agencies are struggling to provide supervision to staff and in this context; social workers have neither the support nor time to develop these important skills.

This series will provide the basics of the supervision process along with the more advanced techniques and examination of the ethical issues facing supervisors.
