The Center for Youth Development (CYD), an initiative of The United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania (UWSEPA) provides training and technical assistance to improve the quality of the region’s after school, summer, and enrichment programs for youth. The Center’s work uses a positive youth development model, which includes building coalitions of neighborhood and community stakeholders to share resources and build infrastructure to positively influence young people. The Division of Community Based Prevention Services (DCBPS), within Philadelphia ’s Department of Human Services, is committed to providing the social supports that strengthen at-risk families and allow them to thrive in their own communities. DCBPS recognizes that child abuse, neglect and delinquency are most often symptoms of the overwhelming effects of poverty, unemployment, lack of access to health care, or substandard housing with which too many families struggle.
