The Field Center’s Successful Breakfast Meeting Series Continues
The Field Center for Children’s Policy, Practice & Research, an interdisciplinary program of Penn’s School of Social Policy & Practice, Law and Medicine and the Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania, held it’s most recent Breakfast Meeting on February 21, 2006. Howard C. Stevenson, PhD, Director of the School, Community, and Clinical Child Psychology Program, Psychology in Education Division of Penn’s Graduate School of Education, presented on Playing with Anger: Making Meaning of Aggression and Bonding with African American Boys.
The seminar “sold out” with a record 210 preregistered and many more turned away. Dr. Stevenson was warmly received by the diverse audience of social workers, educators, medical personnel, child welfare administrators, attorneys, advocates, therapists, graduate students and corrections staff. Evaluations were extremely positive. Dr. Stevenson was described as a knowledgeable, engaging and dynamic speaker with a “fun style”. Participants found the presentation to be “real”, informative, and applicable to their work in the field.
The Field Center’s last Breakfast Meeting for the academic year is scheduled for May 9, 2006 from 8:30 to 10:30 AM at Penn Law School’s Levy Conference Center, located at 3400 Chestnut Street. This seminar will feature Dr. Howard Dubowitz, Professor of Pediatrics and Director of University of Maryland’s Center for Child Protection, with a critical presentation on Child Neglect. Preregistration will open in April by email at fieldctr@sp2.upenn.edu. There is no charge for the seminar and two Social Work CEUs are available for $20, payable by check at the door. The Field Center offers its Breakfast Meetings throughout the academic year to enhance knowledge and enrich communication among those varied disciplines involved in the child welfare arena.
