Clinical DSW Program
Admission Requirements
Applicants for admission to the DSW program are required to: (1) hold a masters degree in social work from a CSWE accredited program; (2) have two years post MSW experience; (3) provide three letters of recommendation (one letter must be from an individual who has supervised your clinical work); and (4) complete an application essay. The application essay should address the following questions:
The application essay should include a discussion of the following:
- Discuss the factors that have contributed to your decision to pursue a doctoral degree in clinical social work at Penn.
- Describe your clinical experience and discuss a case that you found clinically challenging.
- Discuss a clinical issue that you wish to explore through your doctoral studies. Include in your discussion how your exploration of this clinical issue will contribute to current practice or theory related to the issue you have selected.
