Scholarship for Women with Disabilities
The Ethel Louise Armstrong (ELA) Foundation Scholarship provides financial assistance to women with physical disabilities who are enrolled in a college or university graduate program in the United States. ELA Scholarship awards are based on merit and are given in an objective and nondiscriminatory basis. Each applicant is required to submit an application packet including an application form, a college transcript, two letters of academic recommendation, a medical verification form, and an essay outlining how they will "Change the Face of Disability on the Planet." Scholarships range from $5,00 to $2,000 per year.

The NIH and Oxford and Cambridge Universities in Britain, have established a collaborative graduate program in biomedical sciences. Students typically spend two years in England at either school, pursuing tutorials and research on a collaborative project with an NIH intramural scientist then spend about two years in Bethesda, Maryland, continuing their thesis research project at the NIH. Students receive a stipend of $24,000 per year, health benefits and other academic support in England and at the NIH until degree completion. Professional Education Network Scholarship (PENS)
The Professional Education Network Scholarship (PENS) provides financial assistance for Jewish students interested in Jewish communal service, including up to $4,000 a year for M.S.W. students in any area of social work practice, including clinical, group, community, social policy, and administration. Students who apply for their first year may receive a maximum scholarship of $8,000 for both years of study.

The scholarship requires that both years of the student internship take place in a UJA-Federation network agency. Students applying in their second year must complete a one-year internship in one of UJA-Federation's agencies. All recipients must also commit to working within UJA-Federation's network of agencies for two years after graduation. A list of UJA-Federation agencies is available at www.ujafedny.org/agencies.

Students must have financial need to be eligible for PENS. Applicants are required to submit copies of their most recent tax returns or a FAFSA application.

William Randolph Hearst
The Nonprofit Sector Research Fund, a grant making program of the Aspen Institute in Washington , DC , annually offers the William Randolph Hearst Endowed Scholarship. The scholarship, which is based on academic excellence and need, is open to both undergraduate and graduate students who are members of minority groups. The Hearst Scholar serves as a summer intern with the Fund. Through this program, the Fund seeks to introduce a diverse group of students to issues relating to philanthropy, voluntarism, and nonprofit organizations. Recipients may arrange with their colleges or universities to receive academic credit for this experience.

Activities :
In his or her summer internship, the Hearst Scholar undertakes general research and program support for the Fund’s grant making and outreach efforts.

Requirements:
The ideal candidate for this scholarship is a highly motivated continuing graduate or undergraduate student from an underrepresented community. She or he should have an excellent academic record and also have the following:

1. Outstanding research skills;
2. A background in the social sciences or humanities;
3. Excellent writing and communication skills;
4. Demonstrated financial need; and
5. American citizenship.

The student must be able to intern for 10-12 weeks full-time during the summer at the Washington , DC , office of the Aspen Institute. All travel and housing costs must be covered by the student.

Scholarship Stipend:
A scholarship grant of between $2,500 and $5,000 will be awarded, depending on the recipient’s educational level, financial need, and time commitment.

The Alston/Bannerman Fellowship Program is committed to advancing progressive social change by helping to sustain long-time activists of color. The program honors those who have devoted their lives to helping their communities organize for racial, social, economic and environmental justice. The program provides resources for organizers to take sabbaticals for reflection and renewal. Each year 10 long term activists of color are awarded $15,000 each to take sabbaticals of three months or more. This is a both a reward and an opportunity for rest and reflection for dedicated people who have been busting their butts working on tough issues for years. Ford Foundation International Fellowships Program
The new International Fellowships Program (IFP) represents the largest single grant in the history of the Ford Foundation. Ford will invest $280 million over the next 10 years to support up to three years of formal post-baccalaureate study for Fellows from countries in Africa , the Middle East , Asia , Latin America and Russia , where the Foundation maintains overseas programs. The program will assist approximately 350 new Fellows a year, for a total of 3,500 Fellows over the next decade. The program will begin in November 2000 in four pilot sites: Nigeria , Senegal , Ghana , Vietnam , Chile , Peru and Russia . During 2000-2001, the program will expand to approximately 10 to 12 additional countries and regions. The International Fellowships Program provides support for up to three years of formal graduate-level study. Fellows may enroll in master or doctoral programs and may pursue any academic discipline or field of study that is consistent with the interests and goals of the Ford Foundation. Once selected, Fellows may enroll in universities in any part of the world, including their country of residence. For Fellows who have not yet been admitted to graduate school, the IFP's partner organizations will provide placement assistance. In addition to financial assistance for travel, living expenses, tuition and related costs, the IFP will give Fellows pre-fellowship training, including language study and short courses in research and computer skills. The program will also bring Fellows together in an informal network to share information and experiences. Eligible Fields. Any academic discipline or field of study related to the Ford Foundation's grant-making areas: International Cooperation, Environment & Development, Social Sciences & Humanities, Sexuality & Reproductive Health, Arts & Culture, Education, Governance & Civil Society, Media, Children, Youth & Families, Community Development, Development Finance & Economic Security.

Applications are reviewed and evaluated by a local or regional panel composed of scholars and practitioners from various academic fields, who also make the final selections. Ford Foundation Pre-doctoral Fellowships For Minorities
The purpose of this fellowship is to increase the presence of underrepresented minorities on the nation's college and university faculties, to enhance diversity on campuses, and to address the persisting effects to past discrimination. Open to applicants who are U.S. citizens or nationals who are members of one of the following ethnic minority groups: Alaskan Natives (Eskimo or Aleut), Black/African Americans, Mexican Americans/Chicanas/Chicanos, Native American Indians, Native Pacific Islanders (Polynesian or Micronesian), Puerto Ricans. Awards are made only for study in research-based doctoral programs (PhD or Sc.D.) that leads to careers in teaching and research at the university or college level. Practice-oriented programs are not supported. Applicants currently enrolled in a PhD or Sc.D. program must demonstrate that they can fully utilize a three-year pre-doctoral fellowship. Yale Fellowship Opportunity
The Post-MSW Fellowship is a competitive program designed to provide advanced clinical training in an outpatient setting. It is a year long commitment beginning in July 2005 and concluding in June 2006. Over this year fellows will work 60 hours per week and average 25-30 clinical encounters. Stipends are awarded in amounts that vary year-to-year depending on the Clinic’s grant funding. The application deadline is February 28. We encourage those interested to apply early, as applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
