Welcome to student life at the Penn School of Social Policy & Practice (SP2)!

At SP2 our students enjoy the advantages of a small, nurturing school community nestled in a large, vibrant teaching and research university. The School’s administration and faculty value student involvement, and students play an active role in shaping the School’s culture, policies, and future directions. Our students are invited to serve on SP2 and University governance and planning committees, where they have the chance to be heard on issues related to student policies and procedures, curriculum, and field placement. Other opportunities for students to enhance their academic experience at SP2 include getting involved in student organizations and taking advantage of support centers and student communities at the School and around campus.

The Office of Student Affairs works closely with students to help make life at SP2 as satisfying and rewarding as possible. Some of the many programs and events that Student Affairs works together with students on include:

  • Monthly Deans/Student Leaders Meetings, in which students are invited to share their concerns and ideas with the Deans.
  • New Student Orientation, when faculty, staff and current students greet and help prepare new students for academic life.
  • Student Organizations that offer students the opportunity to organize around worthy causes, meet new people, and stay involved in School and campus life.
  • The Peer Mentoring Program, which pairs new students with peer mentors to help with the transition to life at Penn.
  • Writing Workshops and Tutoring, offering a six-week writing workshop and individual tutoring by our doctoral students, free of charge, to Penn SP2 students.

I invite you to immerse yourself in campus life and take full advantage of the many opportunities that Penn offers!
