Global Engagement FAQs

What opportunities are available for MSW students to participate in the SP2’s International Program?

Many opportunities exist for MSW students to spend 3-6 weeks during the summer months (between the first and second year of coursework) to study in another country carrying out a comparative research project on a topic of mutual interest to the student, the student’s host institution, and SP2. These opportunities include: Formal Linkage Programs, Informal Linkage Programs, and Instructor Led-Coursework Abroad (in China, Cuba and India) and individual research programs. Detailed information can be found on our Global Opportunities at SP2 page.

Are there international field placements for MSW students?

Currently, there are no international field placements. Students interested in global engagement experiences participle in one of the many international opportunities that are available during the summer between the first and second year of study.

How do students apply to SP2’s International Program?

Matriculated students must make formal application to the Program.

Does the School offer funding for the International program?

Limited financial assistance is available for students participating in a credit accruing SP2 sponsored Study Abroad experience.

Can students enrolled in the MS in Social Policy Program (MSSP) complete an international internship?

The MSSP internship should serve as an opportunity to integrate the classroom learning and apply research skills, via experiences in policy analysis, policymaking, and/or policy implementation, policy evaluation activities and/or other policy-related activities. An international experience may be available, with appropriate arrangements. In some cases the international experience may not meet the requirements of an internship, but may fulfill requirements as an elective. Pre-approval is required.
