Dr. Yin-Ling Irene Wong serves as a member of the Social Workers Registration Board Assessment Panel in Hong Kong, China. Dr. Wong also serves as an external reviewer for the Research Grants Council (RGC), Hong Kong, China.

Dr. Jennifer Prah Ruger, Associate Dean for Global Studies, traveled to Shanghai Jiao Tong University to participate in and present at its international Deans’ Forum on Schools of Public Policy/Public Affairs and Societal Development on May 28, 2016.

Penn Delegates presented at the China-US Health and Mental Health Social Work Conference in Beijing on November 10 & 11, 2012.

Dr. Mary Mazzola, Associate Dean of Enrollment Management and Global Outreach and former hospital social worker, presented on the History and Development of Medical Social Work in the United States at the Shanghai International Medical Social Work Conference in November 2011.

Dr. Kenwyn Smith presented seminars on leadership and strategy to masters and doctoral students at the School of Social Development and Public Policy at Beijing Normal University in December 2011.

The Penn-China Civil Society Initiative was launched October 30th, 2010 to influence regulations and policies in China’s NGO sector and help to accelerate the development of civil society in China.

In 2010, SP2 and Beijing Normal University One Foundation Philanthropic Research Institute signed an agreement to promote the development of collaborative teaching and training programs, along with international scholastic communication and cooperation.

Representatives from SP2 visited Beijing and Shanghai October 8th – 17th, 2010 to recruit students, identify potential collaborations as well as explore faculty research opportunities.

SP2 hosted four Beijing Normal University School of Social Development and Public Policy (SSDPP) graduate students from July 5, 2010 through August 13, 2010.

In December 2009 a group of social work educators from the China Social Work Education Association visited SP2. The purpose of the visit was to ascertain the best practice of curriculum design, course development and evaluation.

Dr. Ram Cnaan gave a keynote speech entitled “Volunteering and its Role in Modern Societies. Social Change and the Transformation of Social Structure.” at Nanjing Normal University, Nanjing, China, August 22-23, 2009.

Dr. Yin-Ling Irene Wong gave a keynote speech entitled “Community Integration in the United States: An Examination of Its Applicability to Psychiatric Rehabilitation in Hong Kong” at the Symposium on “Community Integration of Persons in Psychiatric Rehabilitation: Practice Wisdom and Challenge” co-hosted by the Tung Wah Hospital Group Lok Hong Community Care Services and Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong, China, June 2009.

Dr. Yin-Ling Irene Wong was a panelist at the Symposium on “New Opportunities for Community Mental Health Services in Guangzhou, Hong Kong, and Macau” co-hosted by the Guangzhou Federation of Persons with Disabilities and Richmond Fellowship of Hong Kong, Guangzhou, China, July 2009.
