Jason Leach, MSSP’18

Jason Leach was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, and graduated from Tufts University in 2012 with a double major in Political Science and Philosophy. He worked in healthcare in Boston for three years then moved to and fell in love with Philadelphia in 2016. He graduated from the MSSP program in May 2018 and currently works as an Associate in the District Performance Office at The School District of Philadelphia.

His research interests include labor/employment policy, public education funding, public transportation, and financialization. But he is a firm believer that his work does not define him.

“The MSSP program was transformative for me and put me on the career path I enjoy today. The coursework sharpened my analytical skills, especially my ability to assess institutions and the policies they put forward. Will a new policy be effective, comprehensive, and enforceable? What are its chances in today’s political climate? And most importantly whom does it serve?

“Additionally, after years of avoiding statistics and rhetoric around “data-driven solutions,” the MSSP program helped me discover the value of empirical research in advancing certain policy goals. The skills I learned in data cleaning, summary statistics, and linear modeling have been essential to my success so far.”
