Lori Breen, LCSW, is the Coordinator of the Veterans Empowerment Center at the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz (Philadelphia) VAMC. Over the past nine years she has also held various acting roles at the VA including the Women Veterans Program Manager and the OEF/OIF/OND Program Coordinator. Currently she is the Acting Local Recovery Coordinator and serves her VA’s Behavioral Health and Social Work departments to further person-centered care. Lori also served as the Social Work Internship Coordinator where she expanded student placements and supported the University of Pennsylvania’s social work students in their mission to learn about and respond to the needs of Veterans. She also served as Chair of the Social Work Professional Board.

Prior to the VA, Lori worked in community mental health where she led a county-sponsored pilot aimed at transforming traditional mental health services into recovery-oriented services and supports. As a result of her work with her team, she was awarded The Montgomery County Mental Health Committee’s Distinguished Programmatic Leadership Award in 2004. She acquired her certification in Non-Profit Executive Leadership from Bryn Mawr College in 2007, expanding her knowledge of program design and governance. Lori is passionate about partnering with people who have been diagnosed with mental illness, developing programs and initiatives with them that are designed to reconnect individuals to themselves, their communities, and meaning and purpose in their lives.
