Wenyan (Chloe) Ding, MSSP’18

  • Manhattan based News Reporter at Sing Tao Daily and freelancer; Intern at The Borgen Project

Chloe was born and raised in China and came to study in the US when she was 16. She decided to make journalism her future career goal when she applied to college. While receiving her bachelor’s degree in the School of Journalism at Indiana University, she realized that as an international student, she needed a breakthrough to know society better to be a journalist. That was the initial passion for her to choose the MSSP program. She leaned research skills, nonprofit programs, communication, and coding with R. Her primary research field at UPenn was human trafficking and abortion. She worked at the UN as her graduating internship.

She has witnessed miscommunication and misinformation among countries for years. She wishes her report will play a neutral role in inspiring people to think instead of telling them what to think.

“The MSSP program is efficient and inspiring. The research and data visualization (R) I learned in MSSP was challenging, but working together with my peers and professors made the journey fulfilling.”
