Yawei Song was originally from China. Influenced by parents working in the medical field, Yawei developed an early interest in the healthcare. She went to medical school in China, during which time she became interested in the social aspects of health. Later, she decided to come to the US to learn more about the collaborative work between health and society. After graduating from the MSW program, she started working at Chinatown Clinic of Drexel University. While there, she helped immigrant patients to access health services, and bridge language and cultural barriers between recent immigrants and US health system.
“My experience at SP2 broadened my vision of social changes and challenged my way of thinking. I learned from both theoretical and practical ways of community engagements, program evaluation, and advocacy. I also gained tremendous knowledge and experience about social work in the healthcare settings through the multidisciplinary platform that SP2 has built up. More importantly, I received generous support and inspiration from great cohorts and professors that I will carry with me in my future endeavors.”
