Zoom is a video conferencing platform that allows users to perform synchronous (real-time) functions including host online meetings, participate in group messaging, and share video and audio content. The software is cloud-based and works on desktop, laptop, and mobile operating systems including Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Blackberry, and Linux.
How do I get a Zoom account?
- If you do NOT already have an SP2 or UPENN Zoom account, you can create one at https://upenn.zoom.us
Penn has a new University Zoom account for all faculty, staff and students.
SP2 will be migrating all existing Zoom accounts during winter break of 2020. Please stay tuned for more details on the timing of this migration as we get closer to the date.
Benefits of New University Zoom Account
All users will have fully functional accounts, not subject to 40 minute time limits.
Students will be able to use Zoom to collaborate outside of instructor-lead class sessions.
HIPAA Compliance (NOT approved for physician/patient sessions or telemedicine purposes).
It will be easier to coordinate Zoom meetings across schools and divisions within Penn.
Instructors who do not teach every term will have fully licensed accounts even in terms when they are not teaching.
We are working on integrating Zoom with Canvas and Panopto to make it easier to use Zoom for teaching.
