New Student Orientation

Required for All Incoming Advanced Standing Students

The Graduate Student Center offers a variety of New Student Orientation activities for Penn graduate and professional students. Optional for all SP2 students.

Registration opens July 1, 2019.

Designed for new students who are NOT U.S. Citizens and/or naturalized or permanent residents.

9:15am Dean’s Welcome

9:30am Students and Staff Introductions

10:00am “Welcome to the American Classroom”

12:15pm Lunch

1:15pm- Penn Resources & Campus Tour

Designed for new students who are U.S. Citizens and/or naturalized or permanent residents.

Required for all incoming MSW Students


Required for all incoming PhD students.

MSSP students are eligible to elect to take a waiver exam for MSSP 630, Quantitative Reasoning. Any student who passes the waiver exam must take an elective in its place, which may include but is not limited to a more advanced research methods course.

Exam date: Wednesday, August 21, 2019, 10am-12pm
