“Macro- and micro-economic policy changes to alleviate poverty may impact mental health.” In an article for Nature Mental Health, Stacia West, Amy Castro of @pennsp2, and P. Murali Doraiswamy review emergent evidence of cash transfers—universal basic income, guaranteed income, or (un)conditional cash—as a mental ill-health prevention strategy.

Amy (she/her) is pursuing a macro concentration in the Advanced Standing Master of Social Work (MSW) program.
_____
“I chose SP2 because of the criminal justice specialization, as well as the policy courses that are offered.

“One experience that I have had during my time at SP2 that has been especially rewarding was my field placement with the Public Defender Association of Philadelphia in the Children & Youth Justice Social Services Unit. While I was there, I was able to attend juvenile court proceedings and strengthen my understanding of both the juvenile and criminal legal system in action.

“During my time at SP2 I have been given the opportunity to work alongside amazing classmates, many of whom have become my friends, as well as professors who genuinely care about helping me to thrive and grow. I have been able to pursue assignments that I am passionate about studying and gain knowledge that I will utilize throughout my career as a Social Worker."
